چکیده
Although trust plays a pivotal role in many aspects of life, very little is known about the manifestation and distrust everyday life. In this work, we integrated several prior approaches to investigated prevalence key determinants (vs. distrust) people’s natural environments, using preregistered experience-sampling methodology. Across more than 4,500 social interactions from heterogeneous sample 427 participants, results showed high average levels trust, but also considerable variability across contexts. This was attributable trustee perception, distance, as well three dimensions situational interdependence: conflict interests, information (un)certainty, power imbalance. At dispositional level, shaped by general moral identity, zero-sum beliefs. The scope most trust-related traits, however, moderated distance: Whereas identity buffered against distrusting distant targets, low value orientation amplified differences between close vs. others. Furthermore, laboratory-based game predicted only with regard not interaction partners. Finally, linked self-disclosure cooperation, particularly situations partners’ interests. We conclude that can be conceptualized relational hub interconnects perception trustee, closeness trustor structural features interdependence, behavioral response options such self-disclosure.
